Ada County Medical Society 2017 Physician of the Year – Joseph H. Williams, M.D., C.P.I.

Each year, the board of directors solicits nominations from members to honor one of its own at our Annual Meeting in October. This year’s recipient of the ACMS Physician of the Year Award is Dr. Joseph H. Williams, MD.

Dr. Williams is a board-certified urologist and founding member of the Idaho Urologic Institute and the Medical Director of the Surgery Center of Idaho. A native Idahoan, he graduated from the University of Arkansas and completed his internship in surgery and his urology residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He also served in the military for 10 years and is A decorated Naval veteran in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield.

Dr. Williams is the consummate physician leader, community servant, and example of humility mixed with strength. He leads with US Naval Medicine discipline, a Western-independent mindedness, and Southern congeniality. At Idaho Urologic Institute he has helped build an incredible medical practice that truly sets the bar in our community. He listens closely before speaking and hands out strong encouragement to those he leads.

His medical community leadership roles are numerous and include:

  • Ada County Medical Society past-president
  • Past member of the Idaho Board of Medicine
  • Idaho Medical Association District IV Trustee
  • Idaho Physicians Network director
  • Charter board member of Independent Doctors of Idaho
  • Rotary Club International Member

His community involvement spans from organizing the Merit Badge Medical School for Boy Scouts of America, to the Volunteer Physicians Network.
